My experience designing the header was quite painful. It wasn’t because the concept was hard I just had to keep redoing the entire picture that I was trying to mash together. First I thought I was going to do a background of planets and outer space but I figured that wouldn’t really go with the theme of the entire blog being Digital Media. So Instead I had to find more pictures. After advance searching in Google for pictures that are allowed to be modified, there weren’t that many pictures to choose from. I eventually found some that I could use. I decided to do a background of the ocean with a child and older man about to surf to the digital media websites like Facebook and Twitter. I thought that concept would be appropriate because it symbolizes the fact that any age group is able to be involved in this digital age. Now as for the program that I used to put together the header that was a bit tricky. Pixlr was a little confusing just because I had never used that program before. The one thing that came naturally for me was lassoing the pictures that I wanted to mash together. Also, copying and moving it to where I wanted it to be placed was pretty easy for me. The tough part was figuring out how to handle the different layers and not uploading the pictures onto the same layers. Another big pain was I had to keep resizing the different layers of the pictures I wanted to mash because they wouldn’t fit on the background. When I wanted to resize it from the canvas section it would cut and crop off the surfers that I was planning on lassoing. When I tried resizing the entire picture I had to do it just right so it wouldn’t pixilate the image. It took me a bunch of tries to get that part perfect. Pixlr seems like a program that would be very helpful in the future. If a job asks you to create a website for them and customize the header to represent their business this is perfect for just that! Knowing different programs such as these is very helpful when getting a job. Anyone would rather hire someone experienced in Pixlr and wordpress than someone who has no idea what those programs are. I’m glad I became familiar with Pixlr for this assignment!
Great work, Alexa! I’m glad that you can see how to apply these tricks in the workplace. They will serve you well. Great work!
Hey Alexa,
I really like your header! I think it’s simple and has a cool concept behind it. One suggestion I have is using the lasso tool closer and maybe using the blur tool to combine your layers a little smoother. I had a hard time finding great quality pictures under the creative commons google image search as well. Other than that, great work! I look forward to seeing more of your media skills further on in the semester.
